Below you can browse through 8 different styles of singles I have written. Enjoy!
SINGLES
1. Pitiful (Trance Gates) – Euro Trance
A massive dance track that was the fruit of my side-chaining labours. This song pulses and pounds from start to finish with a thumping beat and huge synths that kick in and explode at just the right time. i pushed my technical production limits on this one: Filtering, EQing, Automation, plug-ins galore and more. And oh what a mixing chess match. My hope is that the sounds and tweaks all simply disappear into one luscious soundscape.
2. In Heaven’s Eyes – Euro Trance
My first big track incorporating some sound design elements. Wooshes and bangs are all over the place but the tight beat and the classic trance synths and melody are what make this track really pop. Pro-53 shines in here. Originally designed to be a vocal track my female lead was a little too pregnant to lay down the vocals for me. In the future though? Aggressive and bouncy till the very end.
3. Here I Stand – Pop Orchestral
Finally being revealed, this song was a source of huge emotional upheaval. Originally recorded with drums, I was subsequently ripped apart for them by an instructor. Hence, they are gone and what is left is a powerful track that was designed to be played at the end of the movie “Sunshine.” I wrote lyrics for only the second time and Alexis Felix is the voice you hear bringing them to incredible life. I hope you like this song as much as I do. Unfortunately I accidently deleted the master project file so it is what it is.
4. Shot Down – Punk
Dirty, raw and fast as all hell. This song was done in 3 hours in class start to finish. It has a blistering chorus that is as catchy as any So-Cal punk I have ever heard. And that was the plan. A trio effort, Alexis Felix on vocals, drums, and of course rough as sawtooth guitars, Ben (I always forget your last name – Martin?) on bass and synths, and myself doing lyrics, editing, and arranging. Our topic was teenage angst so in true So-Cal punk style its all about a teenager that we can’t take seriously because he takes himself too seriously. Turn it up and let your speakers bleed, no polish on this baby.
5. Esperante – Latin Pop
Ah, Latin days! The mystery word “Esperante.” (Which turns out to be a small sports car, who knew?) Having to write a Latin track and being born and raised in Canadian suburbia is not easy. I researched the clave rhythm, layered my one word vocals over and over and looped 2 piano riffs. The mains drums are more western, but make you bop your head no? Oh, and lots of horns, lots and lots of horns. Tequila!
6. In The Cool Room – Easy Listening
A look back at the cool evenings of the Pacific Coast through a 1980′s lens. A tall white beach house has its windows thrown open letting the smooth ocean breeze buffet the sheer curtains into the sunset behind a bank of slowly rolling clouds.
7. Set You Free (Green Fall ReMix) – 90′s Dance
Ah, Set You Free. Everybody in class got the same vocal track from N-Trance’s 90′s dance song “Set You Free.” While everyone was going nuts I loved this project and still love listening to it. I had never written a 90′s dance track before, never done a remix before. What I came up with, I think anyways, is pure 90′s magic. Articulated synths (thank you again Absynth envelopes) and hihats everywhere. Oh, and just a “bit” of delay on the vocals. Get up and shake it like it’s 1994.
8. G Minor Heaven – Dance
So named because of my favourite key: G minor. Oh the sweet sound. This song was written for an Ableton Live class which meant we had to perform parts of the song live. I am a songwriter, not a performer and this prospect terrified me. However, after laying down the unique swirling beat I played three different synths and some piano, well, live. The third synth is meant to be aggressive and piercing so watch out. Bouncy and catchy and in G minor, the perfect mix.

Bad Ass site thumbs up
